Type 2 Diabetes: Yogurt may combat
A new study from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, published in the peer-reviewed Journal of the Public Library of Science, has found a promising link between the types of bacterial populations in the gut of diabetics, and how they differ from that of non-diabetics. This exciting study unveils the potential role of probiotics and prebiotics to alter the gut microflora and improve health.
This news could not be more timely! For one thing it validates the information shared in the groundbreaking book, The Yogurt Diet, an it is yet one more link between the great importance of a balanced gut flora, good health and the prevention of disease – such as metabolic syndrome and other related disorders. The Yogurt Diet, explains that in order to control metabolic diseases it may be imperative to modify the gut flora, and this becomes even more relevant given that diabetes might be associated with different bacterial populations.
Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disease with the primary cause obesity-linked insulin resistance. However, mental stress, infection and genetic predisposition might also play a role in the onset of this growing illness. The researchers at the University of Copenhagen have stated the following. “Our data suggest that the levels of glucose tolerance or severity of diabetes should be considered while linking microbiota with obesity and other metabolic diseases in humans.”
The Yogurt Diet speaks directly to this theory. The goal, when following the nutritional advice I propose on my book, is to modify the gut flora through the foods we eat, by consuming plenty of probiotic yogurt and a diet rich in prebioitc foods – such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables – that promote the growth of the beneficial bacteria we harbor in the gastrointestinal tact.
Once again, science is providing us with evidence showing the value of traditional diets that have been consumed in some areas of the world for centuries, as well as linking the probiotic bacteria in yogurt to good health and the prevention of disease.
The answers will come soon, as scientists continue to reaffirm that yogurt may very well be a natural way to promote a balanced gut flora and prevent, control and ultimately eliminate illnesses such as diabetes. The clock is ticking as we search for answers to end the disease epidemics we’re facing in our country today. If you read The Yogurt Diet you'll be one step closer to beating the clock. So begin by adding Greek Gods Yogurt to your diet three times a day!
