Child Help
Childhelp is founded on the "Empowerment Principle". For over 52 years, our compassionate nonprofit has seen over 7 million lives positively transformed. Every day our programs and services rescue children demoralized by abuse and neglect. We are not content to simply treat their symptoms and break the cycle; we want nothing less than returning shattered self-esteems to states of power and passion for the future. We replace fear with hope, weakness with strength and anger with love.
The epidemic of child abuse impacts each facet of society and every single person in our country. In addition to the horror of a child burned, bruised and beaten, abuse costs the US over $104 billion annually, impacts our healthcare systems and educational institutions, packs our prisons and stacks our social service organizations with thousands of damaged souls. It claims the lives of hundreds of children each month. A child is abused every 10 seconds. It is a national crisis but we all have the power to change it.
Abuse may be a roadblock to positive emotions but Childhelp provides the path forward. When we work together to advocate for recovering children the first signs of empowerment in action are their sweet smiles. When a little girl or boy makes a breakthrough and shares a broad grin of hope, we can't help but smile back. That moment is the true meaning of joy.
The Childhelp Wings Ambassador of Hope program is the first step towards changing the world for children, and in the process, exploring the personal changes that occur from brightening the lives of others. One of the most pivotal points in determining the direction and impact of our existence is when we realize that we have the permission and power to define who we are. Sometimes this realization comes from the wisdom and guidance of a trusted friend or mentor and at other times it comes from deep within. We believe the "Empowerment Principle" provides the momentum we all need to get involved.
People who are empowered act from a strong center of self-esteem. Once they are in charge of their own destinies, they often feel philanthropically propelled to better the world around them. As they affect change, contribute to communities, or in some cases even make history, their joyful journey come full circle to create authentic, fulfilling lives. The Dalai Lama proclaimed, "Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions." Empowerment is putting this concept into practice.
Learning the difference one individual can make is enlightening, but understanding the difference we can make together is life-changing. Childhelp Wings Ambassadors of Hope are equipped with tools and resources to become a mighty movement against child abuse and neglect. In saving the children's lives, we save our own.
